t is undeniable that how we see and capture the world today is changing. From natural disasters and civil unrest to the uprise of a people against tyranny and oppression. We as a people, in our own way, have documented the worlds history through music, painting, video and photography.
We are living in the fastest growing digital era the world has ever seen and we are sharing our experiences at equal alarming rates. It is no doubt the mobile phone has played an integral part in how we share the world. Photography has long been our way to capture a moment in time and preserve that moment creatively. But now the debate has become how we capture those moments.
Approximately 14 years after an image of baby Sophie Kahn launched the camera phone, mobography has since gone mainstream. According to recent reports, in 2011, Americans took 34% more photos using mobile phones and 13% fewer photos with point and shoot cameras. The cell phone camera has become our preferred way to capture and instantly share our photos.
This site offers to explore the concept of mobile photography (mobo-graf) as a valid art form. Not as something superior to photography, but as another color on the artist palette. Through news and information, how-to's, artist interviews and product reviews, the contributors of Mobograf hope to inspire you to capture the world around you, all while learning the basic principles of photography.
