How to get your photos to your computer desktop using Instant Upload via Google+ app.
Looking for a quick and easy way to transfer your photos from your smartphone to computer? I have a great way that works very well for me that involves using the Instant Upload feature in Google+.
If you are anything like me, I love using mobile applications for quick and easy edits, but I still love using programs like Photoshop and Lightroom for the more labor intensive edits. I just love the desktop platform when editing my photographs. Call me old school but there is just something about seeing my pictures on a larger screen and being able to manipulate them more freely. It just feels like the days of old and the darkroom experience that programs like Lightroom offers.
So are you looking to make an easy and painless transfer of photos off of that smartphone to your desktop? I use Google+ instant upload feature. Here's how this works:
1. Open the Google+ app and head to settings

2. In settings, scroll down until you see "Turn on Instant Upload" This will turn on the auto upload feature within the app.
3. Now you'll want to check when to upload photos. You may have noticed that this works for video as well. So click the drop down for photo and here you can select to upload photos "Over Wi-Fi or mobile network" or just "Over Wi-Fi only".

Once you have activated the feature in the mobile version of Google+, as photos are snapped, they are automaticallly transfered to your Google+ account. Now If you are on a limited data plan, I would recommend uploading via Wi-FI to save you precious data time. I choose to only upload my photos via wifi so my phone is not busy trying to upload photos while I am still trying to shoot. Just my personal preference.
Once your photos are uploaded, go to your Google+ account and usually in the notification bar, you will see that you received a notification of a "new message". Once you click that notification, Google+ will tell you that you have new photos uploaded to your account, ready and waiting for you. If not, on your profile, click the "Photos" tab and there listed first should be "Photos from your phone" catergorized by date and time. The photos shown here are ones I took just before writing this story and were uploaded way before I finished this writing.
Now all you would need to do is save them to your desktop for easy editing. As you can see, this can be a quick and easy way to incoporate your mobile photos into a workflow that works for you. I especially love to use this method when I am street shooting with my mobile phone and Canon 60D. Once I upload all photos from my Canon, My photos from my mobile are uploaded and ready for importation into Lightroom
Another great feature is that these will not be seen by the public or your circles until you elect to share them.
