Jailbreaking your iPad2 and iPhone 4s is now available. Absinthe A5 Jailbreak Updated To v0.4
Those of you just itching to get complete and total control of your iPad 2 and iPhone 4s devices just got a long awaited update to the process. If you don't know what jailbreaking is, it's best descibed as: the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through the use of custom kernels. Jailbreaking allows users to gain root access to the operating system, allowing iOS users to download additional applications, extensions, and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store. A jailbroken iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running iOS can still use the App Store, iTunes, and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls.
Unlike rooting an Android device, jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple. A tethered jailbreak requires that the device be connected to a computer each time it needs to be booted; an untethered jailbreak allows the device to be powered without computer assistance. Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, jailbreaking iPhones is legal in the United States, although Apple has announced that the practice "can violate the warranty.
Up until now the A5 processor was largely a "tethered" jailbreak, but with the release of the software called "Absinthe" by the Chronic Dev Team, allows you to jailbreak with a simple one click procedure. Before now you had to follow a series of steps to enter your device into DFU mode. Well with this software, you can now jailbreak a iPad 2 and iPhone 4s running software version 5.0.1. untethered. It is recommended that you do not upgrade to 5.1 if you intend to jailbreak your device. There is a way to downgrade your device if you already upgraded to iOS 5.1 and I have not tried that process so I am unable to report on it's functionality. I hope to give it a try in the near future.
So, if you are interested in giving it a go and opening your device to a world of additional apps, below you will find links to the Chronic Dev Teams website and an excellent tutorial priovided by RedmondPie.com
